Good and bad news for locals
GOOD news is she’s gone home…bad news is she’ll be back!
Making her debut at Globe Derby a fortnight ago, Encipher captured a heat of The Allwood after racing in the ‘death seat’.
Returning for Saturday night’s Final, the Emma Stewart-trained filly then turned the Group One into a one-act affair.
Driven by Kate Gath, Encipher led throughout to score by 20 metres from a gallant Dougs Diva, with Partyatthebeach eight metres away third.
If that isn’t impressive enough, the daughter of Captaintreacherous rated 1:54.9 over 1800 metres to become the fastest two-year-old to win at the venue.
Furthermore, Encipher’s time was only a second outside the all-age record!
“We’re more than happy with her run,” Stewart said. “We know she has ability and expected her to be hard to beat, but were surprised with the ease in which she did it.
“Kate barely had to move on her and said she could have gone quickly if needed.”
Sent straight to a paddock upon her return home, Encipher will have a short break before being readied for late season majors, which includes South Australia’s Southern Cross.
The futurity begins with heats in November, with the Final scheduled for December 4.
“At this stage she will go back later in the year for the Southern Cross,” Stewart said. “She’s also Vicbred eligible so we’ll be looking at that as well.”
