GEOFF WEBSTER
Happy home state raid

COMPLETING a quick hit-and-run mission to his ‘home state’ last night, Geoff Webster plans to head back across the border in coming weeks.
Victorian-based Webster made the trip to Mount Gambier to secure a Kindergarten heat with promising freshman Baystyle.
As such, the son of Art Major has qualified for the Final at Globe Derby ANZAC Day.
Born and raised in South Australia, Webster established himself as the ‘King’ of Globe Derby before resettling interstate.
SA’s leading driver on six occasions between 1998 and 2004, Webster was also the premier trainer four times.
In 2003, Webster became the first driver to win six races at a South Australian meeting.
“I do enjoy heading back to Globe Derby when I can,” Webster said. “At this stage, I’ll be back again in a couple of weeks.
“I won’t be doing it tough though…I’ll send the horse over via truck and I’ll fly there!”
With Webster holding the reins, Baystyle worked to the lead from barrier five as the early pacemaker, Remarli, was eased to take a trail.
Proving too slick along the home straight, the gelding scored by three-and-a-half metres from Lambro Louella, with Remarli two-and-a-half metres away third.
Rating 2:03.2 over 1720 metres, Baystyle took his record to two wins and a second from three starts.
“I was pretty confident with him as he’d shown a bit in his first two starts,” Webster said. “Once he got to the front I knew he wouldn’t get run down.”
