SOUTH Australian-owned Blue Coman will aim to begin the new season in the same manner in which he ended the old one – winning a Cup.
Triumphant in the SA Trotters’ Cup at Globe Derby on October 28, Blue Coman was sent for a well-earned break following his feature success.
With expat ‘Crow Eater’ Greg Norman reporting the gelding has “been working extremely well”, Blue Coman will tackle tonight’s Echuca Trotters’ Cup.
The son of Monkey Bones is no stranger to glory on the provincial circuit, having won the Gunbower and Elmore Trotters’ Cup, while figuring among the placegetters in several other club’s flagship events.
“He had a nice little freshen up after his win in Adelaide and it has done him the world of good,” Norman said. “I’m more than happy with his work and expect him to run a good race as usual.”
To be driven by in-form reinsman Ryan Sanderson, Blue Coman is the sole starter on the 20-metre mark.
TAB Fixed Odds have the eight-year-old listed on the third line of betting at $7.50, with Double Helix heading the market at $3.50 from the front row.
Sanderson will partner Blue Coman on a high after securing last night’s inaugural Young Guns Series in Melton.
“It will be hard off 20 metres around Echuca,” Norman said. “We’ll have to see how the race pans out, but we will be hoping for a good clear trip without interference.
“Ryan is on fire with four wins last night, so hopefully he can keep it going tonight.”
