Interstate campaign confirmed

HIGH class youngster Senses booked an interstate trip with her victory at Club Menangle last night.

With several key targets in mind during Queensland’s upcoming winter carnival, trainer David Thorn confirmed Senses will head north following her latest triumph.

The Queensland Oaks at Albion Park on July 18 is Senses’ primary aim, with Thorn also setting his sights on a pair of supporting events.

Senses was runner-up behind boom Victorian filly Arrhythmia in the New South Wales Oaks at Club Menangle on May 2.

The daughter of Vincent has proven too good during her two subsequent starts.

“She’ll definitely head to Queensland now,” Thorn said. “Her first start will be the Redcliffe Oaks in a fortnight, then the South East Oaks a fortnight after that.

“Another fortnight later she’s on to the Queensland Oaks.”

Driven by Will Rixon during her latest outing, Senses was pushed forward to find the lead from barrier five before being eased to take a trail behind the odds-on favourite Zeus Lightning.

Gaining a late opening in the shadows of the post, Senses sprinted through the gap to score by a head from The Niteshift, which was undefeated from his three previous starts.

Alert Bay was an eye-catching third, a metre-and-a-half away.

“That was a very nice run from her,” Thorn said. “She worked to find the lead and then raised another effort at the end.

“She put in a rough one right before the post, but still managed to get her head in front.”

Covering the mile in 1:50.8, the three-year-old took her record to an impressive five wins and three seconds from eight starts for earnings of $76,434.
