Perfect end to campaign

HAVING lived up to her name last night, South Aussie Star has been sent for a spell.

Planning to send the promising youngster to a paddock “win, lose or draw”, trainer Ryan Hryhorec is thrilled South Aussie Star ended her campaign by capturing the Australian Pacing Gold Classic at Globe Derby.

With features such as the Southern Cross series later in the season in mind for the daughter of Ride High, Hryhorec stated it was the perfect time to give South Aussie Star “a good break”.

“That’s it for her now,” Hryhorec said. “She’s had half a dozen starts for a couple of wins, a couple of placings and earned some good coin.

“The plan was always to give her a break, win, lose or draw, but to go out with a win, especially in a decent race like that, is ideal.

“She’ll have a good spell before I get her ready for a few races later in the season.”

Driven by Hryhorec, South Aussie Star led throughout from barrier two to complete a two-and-a-half metre win from Ideal Miki.

Chiara Mara was 28 metres away third as the winner rated 2:04.7 over 1800 metres.

“The plan was always to drive her forward from that draw,” Hryhorec said. “Once she got to the front she was never going to be run down.”
