King can ascend to father’s throne!
DON’T be surprised if King Tiger eventually surpasses his father!
That’s the bold statement from the man who would know best…Kevin Pizzuto.
Rapt with King Tiger’s efforts to remain undefeated from four starts, Pizzuto declared the three-year-old has the potential to reach the same dizzy heights as his sire, Tiger Tara.
Pizzuto was the driving force behind Tiger Tara’s ascension to the top, training the stallion to capture harness racing’s ‘holy grail’ – the Inter Dominion.
Crowned 2019 Australian Horse of the Year, Tiger Tara secured seven Group Ones, including the prestigious A G Hunter Cup, on his way to earning $2,375,065.
As for King Tiger, he maintained his perfect record by outclassing older rivals in Newcastle yesterday.
“There is a lot to like about him,” Pizzuto said. “He gives the impression he can be a serious horse as he works through the grades and gains experience.
“He’s a big horse which is why I haven’t raced him much, but everything he has shown at home makes me believe he can go a long way.
“He has speed, but has inherited strength from his sire and the longer they go the better he will be.”
With Joshua Gallagher the cart, King Tiger was pushed through from his second row draw to be three-wide early to find the lead.
Never seriously challenged, the colt cruised to a five-metre win from Standandeliver.
Western Ricki was five metres away third in 1:56.6 over 2030 metres.
“The back row is always a concern, but I never doubted he was good enough to overcome it,” Pizzuto said.
“At this stage I’ve got no big plans for him, just ease him along to give him time to mature into the horse I believe he can become.”
HOOFNOTE: Tiger Tara will once again stand at stud at Medowie Lodge in 2022.
