Well-bred youngster completes impressive debut

HE’S started his career on the perfect note, but has a long way to go before he can be mentioned in the same breath as his famed relative.

That’s the statement from trainer Emma Stewart after The Lost Storm made an impressive debut in Swan Hill yesterday.

With Mark Pitt in the cart, The Lost Storm worked to the lead from barrier four as the small field travelled in ‘Indian file’.

Striding clear of his rivals at the top of the home straight, the two-year-old was untouched to score by 17-and-a-half metres from Surfingmakescents.

Catalpa Rescue was a head away third in 1:54.5 over 1750 metres.

“We expected a big run from him and he didn’t let us down,” Stewart said. “Mark never moved on him and he hit the line with plenty in reserve.

“We’ve got a reasonable opinion of him, but how far he can go remains to be seen.”

From Ayshe Whitby, which is a half-sister to Group One winner Its Rock And Roll, The Lost Storm hails from the same family as former brilliant pacer, The Storm Inside.

Also prepared by Stewart, The Storm Inside was restricted to 19 starts, which netted 16 wins and two seconds for earnings of $311,125.

Standing at stud for Alabar Farms, The Storm Inside won his first 11 starts.

“The Storm Inside was a very special horse,” Stewart said. “It will take a lot more for The Lost Storm to be mentioned in the same breath as him.

“That said, The Lost Storm has started off on the right note and time will tell how far he goes.”
