Motherhood put on hold
PURCHASED as a broodmare, Cash Lover was put into work hoping she could earn her entry fee into the breeding barn.
Not long after her training began for prominent horsewoman Jess Tubbs, however, Cash Lover’s pending life as a matron was over.
Showing enough potential to “make it as a racehorse”, Cash Lover remained in work in a bid to begin her racing career.
Following a modest beginning the daughter of Ready Cash found her rhythm, which has seen her win her last five starts, including a soft victory in Shepparton last night.
“She was only a cheap buy and that was to be a broodmare,” Tubbs explained. “She is owned in New Zealand and the plan was for her to go over there.
“Her owner suggested we work her up for a bit to see how she goes in hope she could win a race or at least earn some prizemoney and pay for her flight to New Zealand.
“That’s on hold now given the way she is going.”
Driven by Tubbs’ husband Greg Sugars, Cash Lover began quickly to work to the lead as early front runner Needabacardi was eased to take a trail.
With the remainder of the 2190-metre trip becoming a procession, the trotter cruised to a four-and-a-half metre win from C K Spur, with Needabacardi two metres away third.
Rating 2:02.6 Cash Lover extended her record to six wins and two placings from 12 starts for owner Wayne Stewart.
Setting the Vicbred Super Series towards the end of the year as the four-year-old’s main target, Tubbs will continue to find suitable races as Cash Lover rises in class.
“For now she will just go around in whatever I can find,” Tubbs said. “The same kind of situation everyone is facing with their horses at the moment.
“She is Vicbred so we’ll be looking at that at the end of the year.”
