Multiple feature race winner returning
MULTIPLE feature race winner Drop The Hammer will make his racing return this weekend.
Sent for a well-earned spell last May, the pacing-bred son of Bettors Delight is set to contest the final event at Club Menangle on Saturday night.
Pleased with Drop The Hammer’s progress trainer Daren Hancock has elected to head “straight to the races” before trialling the trotter.
“He has come up quite well,” Hancock said. “I was going to give him a trial, but felt he is forward enough to go straight to the races.
“He’s still in need of the run, but he is fit enough to play a role in the finish.
“That said whatever he does this weekend he will be better for the outing.”
To be driven by Hancock, Drop The Hammer will begin from the outside of the front row – barrier 10.
The gelding’s stablemate Monaro Mia has fared better in gate six with Ellen Rixon to hold the reins.
Also first-up from a break Monaro Mia hasn’t raced since finish fourth on May 16.
“She has also come up well,” Hancock said. “She’s in the same boat as Drop The Hammer and will benefit from the run.
“From the draw she should be able to get into a good position early and hopefully finish it off strongly.”
