A RETURN to winning form and a favourable draw have Watts Up Majestic in a strong position to add another feature to his tally.
Resuming from a two-month break when runner-up at Club Menangle on April 20, Watts Up Majestic returned to the world class venue the following week to complete a soft 12-and-a-half metre win in 1:56.8.
Pleased with the youngster’s progress, trainer Rickie Alchin is confident Watts Up Majestic is in perfect condition as he heads back to Club Menangle for Saturday night’s New South Wales Trotters’ Derby.
“I couldn’t be happier with him,” Alchin said. “He’s had an ideal preparation and is right where I want him to be for the Derby.
“It’s a strong field, one of the strongest in years, but I wouldn’t swap him for any other in the race.”
Winner of last season’s Group One Breeders’ Crown Final at Tabcorp Park Melton, Watts Up Majestic has drawn to settle forward from barrier two.
TAB Fixed Odds responded by listing the son of Majestic Son as the $3.10 second elect, with Victorian raider Have No Fear the $2.10 favourite.
Prepared by power couple Sonya Smith and Anthony Butt, Have No Fear has drawn gate six, but slots into five with the removal of the emergency.
A last start winner in Kilmore, Have No Fear captured the Group One Need For Speed Prince Final three outings ago in which Watts Up Majestic was unplaced after galloping at the start.
“He’s got a good draw and I’ll be looking to make the most of it,” Alchin said. “We’ll be going forward from there.
“Have No Fear is a very nice type and is the one to beat along with the likes of Kyvalley Hotspur for Brent Lilley.”
