Ready to begin new phase of flourishing career

ALREADY one of South Australia’s leading drivers, talented horsewoman Samantha Pascoe is poised to begin the next chapter of her harness racing career.

Last season’s premier concession driver – who is already on top of the table this year – Pascoe will make her training debut at Globe Derby on Monday.

“It’s always been something I planned on doing,” Pascoe said. “I wasn’t actively looking for a horse, but this filly popped up so thought I may as well have a go.

“I’m loving driving, but also training one gives you that little more satisfaction watching them doing well.

“I am pretty excited for Monday with a few nerves in the mix as well.”

Pascoe will be represented by Australian Pacing Gold purchase Authentic, which will also make her first trip to the races.

The well-bred three-year-old will begin from barrier three over 1800 metres.

“She was with Russell Jack but wasn’t going to measure up to Victoria and given she is owned in South Australia it was a natural choice to bring her over here.

“I wasn’t too fussed about the draw as I’m more using the race as a trial given we haven’t been able to get trials here.

“I’m not going in with any expectations of winning, and am more concerned about getting her around safely and doing everything right…but if she does win it will be a bonus.

“She is doing everything right on the training track and is quite fit so she will be forward enough to make a good showing.”

Authentic completes half of Pascoe’s team, with Joonior Brown the balance.

“Joonior Brown still a little way off making an appearance at the track, but is coming along nicely,” Pascoe said.
