Drawn to secure another Group One
A FAVOURABLE draw has speedy pacer Spirit Of St Louis in a strong position to add another feature to his ever-growing tally.
Already boasting two Group One wins, which are complemented by a pair of Group Two victories, Spirit Of St Louis is engaged in Saturday night’s Sunshine Sprint at Albion Park.
To his large group of owners’ delight, the son of Sweet Lou has drawn to search for the lead from barrier two.
Pleased with Spirit Of St Louis’ starting position, trainer Belinda McCarthy is confident the gelding can secure the $152,500 event despite being a beaten favourite last week.
A $1.80 hotshot in the Mr Feelgood Pace, Spirit Of St Louis finished fourth behind Triple Eight after travelling two-back in the running line.
The five-year-old won his two previous starts at the same venue.
“I’m very happy with his draw,” McCarthy said. “From there he gets a chance to go forward, and should he find the front, he will be very hard to run down.
“He may have looked a little disappointing last week, but I was still satisfied with his run…if I wasn’t he wouldn’t be going around this week!
“His work has been as strong as ever and he’ll be ready to run another big race.”
Should all go according to plan, Spirit Of St Louis will then contest next week’s The Blacks A Fake, which is the fifth leg of the Grant Circuit.
“The Sprint and Blacks A Fake have been his main two targets all along and nothing has changed as far as that is concerned,” McCarthy said.
