RISING star Jamaican Rock has continued his perfect start to the season.

Among South Australia’s best two-year-olds last term, Jamaican Rock returned from a five-month spell to register a soft win in Mildura three weeks.

Kept fresh ahead of last night’s Globe Derby meeting, the Ryan Hryhorec-trained gelding proved too slick for his older rivals.

With young gun reinsman Corey Johnson in the cart, Jamaican Rock overcame a wide draw to score by a metre-and-a-half from Childers Road.

Rocking With Charm was two-and-a-half metres away third.

Rating 1:58.7 over 1800 metres, Jamaican Rock stretched his record to seven wins and two placings from nine starts.

Understandably impressed with Jamaican Rock’s performances, Hryhorec has set his sights on an upcoming series with the son of A Rocknroll Dance.

“I couldn’t be happier with the way he has come back,” Hryhorec said. “He showed last season he has a fair bit of ability but was very green and wayward.

“He’s still not the easiest horse to drive, but his manners have improved.

“There is a heat and Final series coming up, with the heats next Saturday night, so that’s where I will head with him.

“The St Leger isn’t far off either, so that will be the next race on the agenda for him.”
