Run opposition, run
IT’S a name which hasn’t enjoyed the best reputation throughout history.
Along with being the identity of the person who betrayed Samson and being responsible for his demise, it’s the name of the woman who turned Tom Jones into a jealous knife-wielding murderer.
At Club Menangle tomorrow night it could also be the undoing of punters according to trainer Roy Roots junior.
Making a winning debut for the astute horseman in Tamworth a fortnight ago, Delilaah will step up in grade when she heads to the world class venue.
Returning from a three-month spell, Delilaah was never fully extended on her way to a soft five-metre win in 2:02.6 over 2360 metres.
“I couldn’t be happier with her first run,” Roots said. “She did it with ease.”
Although the mare is among the outsiders for her pending assignment, Delilaah has drawn to settle prominently from barrier three.
The daughter of Bettors Delight will also be fitter leading into the 1609-metre sprint.
Delilaah is listed at $34, with No Win No Feed – which is first-up since June 20 – a $1.40 favourite from barrier 10.
“She hadn’t raced for a few months and was in need of the hit out in Tamworth,” Roots said. “Her work since has picked right up and she will be better again this time out.
“There is some stiff opposition in the field, but with the junior claim she comes it into quite well with the draw.
“I’ve got no dobt she can surprise a few and will be better again after a couple more runs under her belt.
“I think her owners will be having a bit of fun with her over the next few months.”
