STAR reinsman Wayne Hill earned more bragging rights last weekend.

Winner of the 2016 Australian Driving Championship, Hill’s latest moment in the spotlight came at Globe Derby when he beat a quality collection of his local peers.

Promoted as the Battle of the Best, the unique tournament pitted five of South Australia’s top reinsmen against five of the state’s leading reinswomen.

Beginning the series on a high with a victory behind Atreacherous in the opening heat, Hill was also successful with Uncle Louis in the third.

David and Michael Smith – whom each won a heat – accompanied Hill on the podium as the placegetters.

Rating a slick 1:55.7 over 1800 metres, Atreacherous took her record to five wins and a second from her last eight starts for trainer Jeremy Seal.

Prepared by Paul Cavallaro, Uncle Louis overcame a 10-metre handicap to score in 2:04.2 for the 2230-metre stand.

“I had a couple of handy drives and that made the difference,” Hill said. “Drawing the right horses is always crucial in these kinds of series.

“It’s always a bit of fun and gives me a reason to brag for a few days, but it is especially good for the trainers and owners as they get a penalty-free win.”
