Student dishes out the lesson

MOST of the week he is a student, but yesterday it was Jason Kittel who was handing out the lessons.

Studying Year 12 at Xavier College, Kittel took a break from the books in order to fulfil his driving engagement at Globe Derby.

Although missing from the classroom, Kittel was present in the winners’ circle in what was his maiden success.

“I was so excited to get my first win,” Kittel said. “It is amazing and something I will never forget.”

Kittel’s initial victory came behind Sabreur which caused an upset after outstaying his rivals over 1800 metres.

Beginning quickly from barrier two, Sabreur was unable to cross Calcavado which led from the pole, forcing the son of Lincoln Royal to face the breeze.

Despite working overtime in the ‘death seat’, Sabreur powered his way to a five-metre win from Longtan Cassanova, with Masonjon was a half-head away third.

Trained by Kittel’s father, Symon, Sabreur rated 2:00.6.

“I was confident with him, but I didn’t think we would end up outside the leader the whole way,” Kittel said. “I thought we’d get cover.

“On that run he showed he is capable of winning a few more.”
