Making most of extended campaign

AUSTRALIA’S current climate has resulted in an extended stay, but prominent New South Wales horseman Rickie Alchin is making the most of it.

Due to restrictions and uncertainty relating to interstate travel – both to and from home – Alchin has remained in Queensland longer than originally planned.

Not that he’s complaining!

“I’ve been here a little longer than I set out to be,” Alchin said. “But with the tighter restrictions back home it’s been easier to remain here.

“At this stage I’ll more than likely stay until the end of the month and be home in time for the Breeders’ Challenge.”

Enjoying a solid rate of success during his Sunshine State campaign, Alchin will be in search of more glory at Albion Park today.

Alchin has two runners on the card, with both among the leading chances.

“Puma Road will go very close in the Trot,” Alchin said. “It’s a pretty even bunch, but he’s going to be hard to beat.

“His last two runs have been quite good as has his track work.

“He’s coming off 20 metres, but there is only a few on the front and a couple off 10 metres.”

Promising youngster Our Action Man will then attempt to lead throughout from barrier two against older rivals.

The son of American Ideal has won three of his last five starts, while finishing second in the other two.

“He has been doing well against older opposition up here and hopefully that will continue today,” Alchin said. “He’s drawn to go forward, so that’s what I’ll be looking to do.”
