IT’S time for classy youngster Star Man to “pull his finger out”.

Building a solid record of two wins and two placings from his four starts, Star Man’s victories include the Silver Salver Final on May 20.

Since his feature win the colt has been kept fresh, but not by design according to trainer John Conry.

“I haven’t been able to get a run for him,” Conry said. “The two-year-old races haven’t been standing up due to the lack of numbers.

“I’ve wanted to race him, but just haven’t been able to over the past month or so.”

Those circumstances have resulted in Star Man competing in a ‘mixed age’ event at Globe Derby, with the field including three and four-year-olds.

One of a pair of two-year-olds in the line up, Star Man has drawn to search for the front from the pole.

Tembie, which boasts two wins and a second from three starts, is the other freshman and will begin from barrier two.

“It’s not ideal, but I want to race him, so I don’t really have much of a choice,” Conry said. “He’s got the right draw to make a go of it, but he’s going to have to pull his finger out, that’s for sure.

“Full credit to Harness Racing SA for doing everything they can to get a race for the two-year-olds.”
