Trotter completes eye-catching debut

DESPITE an early ‘misdemeanor’, Im Frankee completed an eye-catching debut at Club Menangle yesterday.

In a field full of first starters, Im Frankee broke stride just before release point, which saw the daughter of Southwind Frank settle 25 metres from the pack as Majaro Girl began quickly to lead from barrier four.

No sooner had Im Frankee gained her balance, driver Cameron Hart sent the trotter forward to find the front after travelling 500 metres.

“I was disappointed when she broke and missed the start,” trainer Graham Dwyer said. “Thankfully she settled down quickly.

“Cameron said she just wanted to go at the mobile, which was going slow at the time.”

Producing a faultless display for the remainder of the 1609-metre trip, Im Frankee cruised to a three-and-a-half metre win from Chief Kenny, which travelled two-back along the pegs.

Majaro Girl battled on bravely to be a metre-and-a-half away third.

“I rate her,” Dwyer said. “I’ve got some nice two-year-olds here, and when working together, she was sorting them out pretty easily and early, so I gave her a freshen up around Christmas time.

“Since then she has come back even better and just seems like a natural athlete.”

Stopping the clock in 2:01.5, the filly was one of five winners across two meetings for Dwyer.

Remaining in Queensland with his large team, Dwyer registered a quartet in Redcliffe, with his haul including a trifecta.

“I had to stick close to home, so I just sent her down,” Dwyer said. “She will remain there for the rest of the Foundation Series and then a big race in Wagga after that.

“It’s the first time I have trained five winners in a day, so it was a pretty good result.”
