Unique treble for husband and wife
PREMIERSHIP winning trainer Paul Fitzpatrick and his wife Lyn have enjoyed a highly-successful night.
Between training and owning the Fitzpatricks have registered a treble.
What makes their wins unique, however, is they came in three states!
Close to home, Paul prepared Pay Me Sam to score at Club Menangle with the couple’s son Gavin in the cart.
Given time to settle into his stride from barrier four, Pay Me Sam was positioned two-back in the running line as Van Mara led from gate two.
Angled three-wide turning for home, the six-year-old grabbed the lead in the shadows of the post to account for Little Rascal and Pitch Perfect in 1:51.7 over a mile.
Pay Me Sam is by former brilliant but injury-prone stallion Pay Me Christian, which Paul trained for his last two starts during one of his many comeback.
“He has done a great job because legs aren’t the best,” Paul said. “His father was the same way.
“He is a nice horse, so if he gets the opportunity to string a few races together and get fit, he is definitely a free-for-aller.
“I’ll keep racing him at Menangle as big track suits him.”
Paul then prepared Zeuss Bromac to capture a Breeders’ Crown semi-final at Tabcorp Park Melton.
With Kerryn Manning holding the reins, the three-year-old scored from Pacifico Dream and Willie Go West.
“He’s a nice little horse and it was good to see how well he got to the line,” Paul said. “Though, I am thankful Emma different have one in the race!”
Fitzpatrick was referring to leading horsewoman Emma Stewart who won the first four semis on the card.
Zeuss Bromac’s win was in the fifth semi!
Heading further north and Lyn was in the winners’ circle as the owner of True Confessions.
Making his debut for local trainer Stephen Cini, True Confessions completed a four-and-a-half metre win from Pinup Boy, with Blue Moon Rising a head away third.
“We felt the handicapping suits him up there at the moment and the prizemoney is good too,” Fitzpatrick said. “Hopefully he can pick up a few wins while he is there.”
