Three-Year-Old smashes open age record

ERRATIC filly Aldebaran Tess smashed the Maryborough track record in an extraordinary front running performance this afternoon.

After finding the front from barrier seven, the trotter slashed nine-tenths of a second off Tornado Valley’s 2190-metre benchmark to win her Breeders’ Crown heat.

An audacious drive by Sofia Arviddson for trainer Matt Craven poured on the pressure throughout the qualifier, setting up a stunning 10-metre victory.

Aldebaran Tess rated 1:57 to lower the record set by Tornado Valley in winning the Trotters’ Free -For-All on Redwood Day in 2009.

The daughter of Muscle Hill also annihilated Golden Sunset’s three-year-old fillies’ record set 30 minutes earlier by 2.4 seconds.

Aldebaran Tess’ victory continues the stable’s extraordinary season with three-year-old fillies, where Pink Galahs has taken all by storm in winning three Group Ones, while Queen Of Crime was brave in running second in today’s other three-year-old trotting fillies’ heat.

Defending Breeders’ Crown champion was runner-up Im Ready Jet for co-trainers Anton Golino and Jack MacKinnon today.

The division’s other two heat was won by Golden Sunset which broke her maiden for trainer-driver Juanita Breen.

Second during her first two starts, Golden Sunset battled valiantly to score from Queen Of Crime and Araignee Flair.
