Weekend full of potential

PROMINENT owner Gary Crocker hopes a weekend full of potential will develop into a weekend full of success.

With his team racing throughout Australia, Crocker will have runners in Queensland and New South Wales on Saturday night.

In the Sunshine State Crocker’s promising pacer Adam Crocker will return from a well-earned break.

During his debut campaign for trainer Chantal Turpin the gelding had eight starts for four wins, a third and an eye-catching fourth in the Four-Year-Old Championship at Albion Park.

Pleased with reports of Adam Crocker’s progress, Crocker expects a forward showing from the son of Somebeachsomewhere.

“Chantal is happy with the way he has come up and tells me he’s ready to go,” Crocker said. “Obviously he’s in need of a run, but is going well enough to win with the right run on the night.

“Drawing the second line hasn’t helped, but he’ll be in the mix.”

Down south Offyarocka Crocker is poised to contest a New South Wales Derby heat at Club Menangle.

Prepared by Michael Doltoff, Offyarocka Crocker has drawn barrier 11 in the third qualifier.

The son of Art Major slots into nine with the removal of the emergencies.

“The draws haven’t been kind, with Offyarocka also copping a visitor’s draw,” Crocker said. “He’s going to need a fair bit of luck from there.

“Naturally I’d like to see him win, but the main objective is to qualify for next week’s Derby.

“If he can achieve that then we’ll hope for a better draw in the Final.”

Adam Crocker and Offyarocka Crocker are from broodmare gem Aratusa Lass, which boasts a perfect record from seven foals for earnings of more than $1.2million.

Another of the matron’s progeny – Eve Crocker – has been nominated for Tuesday’s Albion Park meeting.

“She is coming along nicely and can hopefully make a winning debut next week,” Crocker said. “Fields don’t come out until tomorrow evening so with any luck she will draw better than the two boys.”
