There are times when a reminder is required!

AS MENTIONED a couple of weeks ago, we all know it’s not good to brag.

On that occasion it was pointed out how there’s no need to mention who won last year’s selection battle between my seasoned colleague Michael Court and I.

Before each of the 2021 Australian Pacing Gold Sales we chose a yearling we felt would attract the highest bid during the sale.

Our picks weren’t a guide to prospective sales’ toppers, but rather a “that one looks good” process.

But then again, there are also times when a reminder is required, such as the results from yesterday’s APG Sale on the Gold Coast.

Continuing our battle, we picked a filly and a colt/gelding we felt was the best on offer.

Needless to say Court’s pair combined sold for less than the filly I chose.

In fact, she – Lot 51 – was the highest sold yearling of the day, fetching a mouth-watering $100,000.

Although a ‘Ginny Come Lately’ among us media peeps, Brittany Graham is no stranger to horseflesh and was the successful bidder for the daughter of Sweet Lou and Group One winner, Muscle Beach.

Court’s Lots 24 and 68 fetched $38,000 and $24,000.

APG Lot 68 is heading to Victoria

Ironically, I will see a fair bit of 68 as it was purchased by Victorian owner, Darren Aitken, who stables his horses on the same Melton property where my partner, Kim Procter, trains!

Aitken’s latest acquisition – a filly by Rock N Roll Heaven from Tantara Franco – will be trained by his girlfriend, Kelly Stuart-Mitchell.

My second selection – Lot 12 – is a striking son of Badlands Hanover purchased by Darren Weeks for $28,000.

Interestingly the second highest Lot sold is a trotter, which was ‘knocked down’ for $95,000.

Also bought by Weeks, the colt is by Volstead from Sweet Prestense.

APG’s second round of Sales is scheduled to be conducted in Melbourne on February 6, giving Court a couple of weeks to work on redemption.
