Will Australia be a happy hunting ground for Kiwi?

CONNECTIONS of classy New Zealand squaregaiter Majestic Man hope Australia can provide better luck at the highest level.

Competing against the best on the Shaky Isles, Majestic Man has captured numerous features, but has been unable to break his Group One maiden.

Prepared by leading trotting trainer Phil Williamson, Majestic Man has contested 14 top shelf events for four seconds, four thirds and three fourths.

The son of Majestic Son has secured two Group Twos and five Group Threes.

Sent across the Tasman last week, Majestic Man will make his Australian debut in the V L Dullard Cup at Tabcorp Park Melton on Saturday night.

Majestic Man has been stabled with Anthony Butt and Sonya Smith while in the care of Williamson’s son Brad.

“Dad wasn’t keen to travel across because of the whole Covid situation, but we felt the races over the next month to six weeks were too good to miss,” Brad said.

“He can go in races worth up to half a million dollars during that time.”

To be driven by Brad, Majestic Man has drawn barrier five in the time-honoured event.

Blessed with blistering gate speed, the gelding is expected to burst to the lead.

“He’s got great gate speed and can usually put himself in the race as he likes,” Brad said. “He just goes forward and I go with him…he follows gate hard whether you want him to or not.

“There wouldn’t be a trotter quicker than him in New Zealand out of the gate.”

TAB Fixed Odds have reacted to the draw by listing Majestic Man as a $1.40 favourite.

Majestuouso – also by Majestic Son – is considered the main danger at $3.40 despite his outside of the second row draw.
