TALENTED youngster Allshookup proved to be a big hit last night.
In what was an afterthought appearance, Allshookup showed his rivals a clean pair of blue suede shoes in Echuca for trainer Shayne Eeles.
Originally looking to trial the three-year-old, Eeles entered Allshookup in the 2160-metre contest at the last minute.
“I didn’t actually have that race in mind for him,” Eeles said. “I was going to send him around at the trials and race him next week, but decided at the last minute to race him instead.
“I’m glad I did as it worked out pretty well.”
With Eeles in the cart Allshookup was settled towards the tail of the field from his second row draw as Ringer Russ led from barrier three.
Angled three-wide at the bell Allshookup dashed to the front along the back stretch before striding clear of the pack.
Proving too strong during the latter stages the son of A Rocknroll Dance completed a metre-and-a-half win from After The Chase, with Beau Steele two-and-a-half metres away third.
Part-owned by Eeles the colt rated 1:58.9, taking his record to four wins and two placings from 13 starts.
“I’m very happy with his run,” Eeles said. “He was flat out up the straight but had them held.
“Given he won last night he can’t go around in the race I had set for next week so I will see what else is around.
“Further down the track if he can keep improving with some racing I will have a look at a Vicbred heat with him and see how he goes.”
