Another interstate trip on the cards

VICTORIAN horsewoman Rebecca East will undertake her regular trip to Mount Gambier tonight.

Based in Heywood, East’s ventures across the border have resulted in her capturing Mount Gambier’s Trainers’ Premiership three times in recent years.

Last season East claimed the title with 24 wins at the venue to be 10 clear of local trainer Barry Finnis.

With 50 placings also to her credit, East’s team finished in the top three at a strike rate of 66.36 per cent.

As for her pending visit, East has five members of her stable engaged at the meeting, with Sporty Rocks considered her best chance in the final event.

Drawn barrier five, Sporty Rocks was runner-up in her debut in Terang last week.

The daughter of Sportswriter will clash with five rivals, including her stablemate, Eastbro Luna, which will begin from gate two.

“I quite like her and think she can develop into a very nice type,” East said. “She went well at her first start, but she did get on the steel a bit.

“She will have a break after Mount Gambier, which will do her good. Hopefully getting her mind off work and racing might settle her down a bit and she won’t come back as fierce.

“Eastbro Luna shows potential, but is a work in progress. On her best behaviour, she can go pretty close.

“She Will Wantano, Famous Label and Eastbro Kaz earlier in the night should also make their presence felt.”
