Drawn to return to winners’ circle

A FAVOURABLE draw has Stylistik in a solid position to return to the winners’ circle at Globe Derby on Saturday night.

Triumphant at his last start for Victorian trainer David Harris, Stylistik won his first two outings for South Australian horseman Mark Russo before having no luck last weekend.

Beginning from the outside of the second row, Stylistik was never a threat – finishing seventh – as Ruthless Offender outstayed his rivals for a tough win.

“Nothing went his way last week,” Russo said. “It was always going to be tough from the draw and it didn’t help that the leaders walked through that first quarter.

“When they walk early and sprint home like that it is very difficult to come from behind, especially around a track like Globe Derby.

“He’s drawn better this week, so I am hopeful we can get a more positive result.”

To be driven by Michael Smith, Stylistik has received barrier two, with Russo keen for he son of Bettors Delight to be sent forward in search of the lead.

The big query is whether the gelding can cross Hereforagoodtime from the pole or avoid being crossed by Deuce Coupe from gate five.

“Going forward would be the best option,” Russo said. “It’s just a matter of how the pole horse begins and whether Deuce Coupe is burned early.

“As long as he can settle right on the speed this time, I will be happy.”
