Another pair of promising youngsters

BASED on yesterday’s performances, prominent trainer Anton Golino has unearthed another pair of promising young trotters.

Making their debuts in Maryborough, Kings Guard and Iron Love proved too good for their rivals.

Pleased with the trotters, Golino hopes they will be back at the same venue chasing Redwood Classic glory later in the year.

“It’s only early days for them and they’ll have to keep stepping up to consider the Redwood, but that’s what we are hoping for,” Golino said.

“They’re both pretty handy trotters which give every indication they will keep improving.

“At this stage I wouldn’t put one ahead of the other. Put it this way, which ever was leading and the other was outside it, the leader would win.”

Driven by Josh Duggan, Kings Guard enjoyed the ideal one-one trip before completing a two-and-a-half metre win from Aldebaran Vera.

Amandine, a stablemate of the winner, was two metres away third.

“He got the perfect sit and was able to make the most of it,” Golino said. “That run will do him the world of good.”

Rating 2:05.9 over 2190 metres, the gelding’s time was 1.3 seconds quicker than Iron Love.

Forced to work overtime in the ‘death seat’ Iron Love bullocked his way to a metre-and-a-half win from Aldebaran Boyd.

Also prepared by Golino, Revelstoke was two metres away third.

“Iron Love did all the work and still fought on strongly,” Golino said. “I was impressed with his run, but was pretty happy with the lot of them.”
