AS ASTONISHING as tonight’s results at Tabcorp Park Melton are, it is not the first time Emma Stewart and Clayton Tonkin have dominated a futurity in such a way.
For example, in recent years the power couple have turned the Vicbred Super Series into their own pet project.
In 2018 Stewart won 24 of the 34 qualifiers across the three age categories before capturing five Group One Finals.
It was a similar scenario last season, with the pair winning 23 of the 34 heats and semis before again securing five Finals.
This time around it is the Australasian Breeders’ Crown, with semi-finals conducted this evening.
With runners in seven of the eight semis, Stewart and Tonkin won six, including a clean of the two-year-old divisions.
If that’s not enough, Stewart prepared the first five across the line in the opening fillies’ semi and the minor placegetter in the second.
As such Stewart will have an incredible seven starters in next week’s Group One Final!
That is a 100 per cent strike rate from semi-finalists in that category from the stable into the decider.
Stewart and Tonkin’s semi winners are Ladies In Red, Tough Tilly, Techys Angel, Mach Dan, Major Moth and Act Now.
Overall Stewart and Tonkin have qualified 16 of their 20 semi-finalists for the Finals.
Leading into the second round Stewart and Tonkin also won nine of the 13 heats in which they had a runner.
During last year’s Breeders’ Crown the duo qualified 17 starters for five Finals and finished the series with two wins.
