Biggest win for respected trainer

AS DIFFICULT as it is to believe, respected horseman Joe Pace registered his biggest success last night.

A veteran within the industry, Pace has won a host of features throughout the years, however, the Cranbourne Cup tops the list.

Pace’s victory came via rising star Supreme Dominator, which caused an upset in the Group Two.

“I have won some good race during the years, going back to Di Biase winning the Four-Year-Old Cup in Shepparton many years ago.

“This is my first Group Two and it’s pretty satisfying to see this horse win a race like this.

“I’ve had a lot of faith in him since buying from New Zealand and this time in he is really showing what he can do.

“He was sent for a long break in August last year before coming back in May and that time off to mature has done him the world of good.

“He’s won five of his last seven starts and was only narrowly beaten in a free-for-all a few starts ago.”

With young gun reinsman James Herbertson in the cart, Supreme Dominator led from the pole before being eased to take the trail behind quality mare, Amazing Dream.

Angled into the sprint lane during the latter stages, the son of Bettors Delight reclaimed the front in the last stride to score by a head from the pacemaker.

Rick Reilly was seven metres away third in 1:57.8 over 2555 metres.

“I knew he was ready to run another good race and the draw really put him into it,” Pace said.

“After the run he got he was entitled to come again in the straight.

“He only just got there in time, but he got there, which is what counts.”
