Chrissy set tone for horror night on the punt!

PUNTERS were left reeling following last night’s Tabcorp Park Melton meeting.

No favourites were success on the eight race program, as the average winning return equated to $12.40.

The average quinella for the card was $96, while the average trifecta paid $1318.

Chrissy Divinyl set the tone for the evening when she captured the opening event at $24.90 for trainer Ian Caruana.

“She’d been working well and I half expected her to win, but you don’t believe it until you see it,” Caruana said.

“Last week she was only beaten four-and-a-half metres in a stronger field, so I was surprised at her price.”

Driven by John Caldow, Chrissy Divinyl gained the perfect one-one trail from barrier two as Zoliver led and Manthadee occupied the ‘death seat’.

Angled three-wide leaving the back straight, the daughter of Jet Laag strode to the front at the top of the home stretch before staving off a late charge from $116 outsider Elteearr to score by a half-head.

After travelling two-back along the pegs Alice Kay was three metres away third.

Owned by Caruana, Chrissy Divinyl rated 1:57.8 over 2240 metres to take her record to 10 wins and 18 placings from 79 starts for earnings of $58,580.

“She has good speed early and I used it when she was younger, but I had been noticing she is better suited to a sit these days,” Caruana said. “So I told John to try to ease her out and hopefully lob somewhere handy.

“John got the perfect trip with her and she finished off just how I expected.

“She’s a six-year-old and on a tight mark, so I’m not sure how much longer she will race, but for now I will just find what I can for her and see how she goes.”
