Drawn to break bridesmaid status
REIGNING Inter Dominion champ Maori Law has the ideal draw to return to the winners’ circle at Tabcorp Park Melton on Friday night.
Triumphant in the time-honoured series at Club Menangle last December, Maori Law has finished second during his four subsequent starts, including his three outings this campaign.
The squaregaiter’s most recent ‘bridesmaid’ appearance was in Melton a fortnight ago.
“He has been going well but just hasn’t had everything fall his way,” co-trainer Emmett Brosnan said.
“We’ve been very happy with each of his runs and he will be ready to go again on the weekend.”
With regular driver Greg Sugars to take the reins, Maori Law is expected to search for the lead from barrier two.
TAB Fixed Odds have the son of Lawman listed as a $1.55 favourite to register his 21st win.
“He has to go forward looking for the lead from there,” Brosnan said. “He did show speed off the arm last time in and we’ll be looking to use it again.
“We’re certainly confident he is ready win.”
Along with his Inter Dominion title defence, Maori Law’s campaign will include his bid to retain the Australian Trotting Championship throne.
The Group One is scheduled to be conducted in Melton next week.
