Early season majors in sights

A SHORT break before another feature campaign.

That’s what is on the cards for promising filly Banglez.

Rounding out her debut campaign with a victory at Tabcorp Park Melton last night, Banglez will enjoy a freshen-up before trainer Emma Stewart sets her sights on a pair of early season majors.

Beginning with the Need For Speed Princess Series in February, the trotter will then be aimed at the Home Grown Classic in March.

The latter is a Vicbred series – a breeding scheme Banglez is familiar with given her latest triumph was in a Vicbred Super Series Final!

“She’s done a terrific job in a short space of time,” Stewart said. “She only started racing last month and has continued to improve.

“I will give her a short lay-off now then get her going again for some of the better races in the New Year.”

With Greg Sugars holding the reins, Banglez led throughout from the pole to score from Senitas Strength and Evas Image.

Rating 2:01.9 over 2240 metres, the daughter of Majestic Son provided Stewart with the final leg of a Group One treble.

Earlier on the card Stewart was triumphant with rising star Maajida and popular filly Tough Tilly.

Driven by Kate Gath, Tough Tilly rated 1:54.9 for the 2240-metre trip as Stewart-trained runners were the first five across the finish.

The previously unbeaten Ladies In Red was second, with Rogue Wave third.

“She’s run second behind Ladies In Red in two features and always threatened to turn the tables at some point,” Stewart said.

“I’ll give her a nice break now then get her ready for the New South Wales Oaks at Club Menangle.”
