Exciting youngster ready to bounce back

EXCITING youngster Private Eye should have little trouble returning to the winners’ circle in Bendigo tomorrow night.

Successful at his first four starts, the son of Hes Watching had no luck when unplaced in the New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge Final at Club Menangle a fortnight ago while under the care of Rob Xerri.

Back in the Victorian stable of Ahmed Taiba, Private Eye is set to contest an Australasian Breeders’ Crown heat.

“We didn’t get the overall result we would have liked, but it was a successful campaign with Rob,” Taiba said.

“Along with winning his heat and semi he gained a bit of experience both racing wise and travelling.

“He’s still pretty immature having only had five starts, but that experience will serve him well.”

With Taiba to take the reins, Private Eye is expected to be pushed forward in search of the lead from barrier five.

The Australian Pacing Gold purchase is the $1.85 favourite with TAB Fixed Odds.

Willie Go West, which boasts three wins and two seconds from six outings, is considered the main danger at $4 from the pole.

“He has to go out there and produce his best, but I think his best will be too good,” Taiba said. “He’s got that x-factor about him and has already gone 1:50.3 around Menangle at just his fourth start.

“After the Crown he will go for the spell and we’ll be looking at races such as the Chariots of Fire with him in the New Year.”
