First step towards resurrecting promising career

FORMER talented youngster College Chapel will take the first step towards resurrecting his promising career this weekend.

Sidelined for 10 months due to injury, College Chapel will return to racing at Club Menangle on Saturday night.

The Group One winning son of Mach Three has been absent since suffering a tear in his nearside hind suspensory last May.

Having nursed the four-year-old back to health, trainer Bernie Hewitt’s first priority is seeing College Chapel “come through the run unscathed.”

“It’s been a long haul back and now we’re ready for the pressure to really be on,” Hewitt said. “He’s had three solid trials, including earlier tonight, so is ready to head back to the races.

“He’s as fit as he can be without racing but whether that is good enough to win we’ll have to wait and see.

“My main objective is to have him come through the run unscathed.”

Winner of his last three starts, College Chapel will begin from gate three over 2300 metres.

The entire’s rivals include his stablemate Make Mine Memphis, which has drawn barrier five.

“I would have preferred to run him over a mile first-up, but it wasn’t to be,” Hewitt said. “He does have good gate speed so we’ll look to go forward from there.

“Make Mine Memphis is a lot fitter after two runs back since July and will go close.

“The draw could prove tricky, but he’ll go well enough.”
