Freshman aiming to emulate dam’s feat

EXCEPTIONALLY-BRED freshman Our Main Man will begin his quest to emulate one of his high class dam’s feats at Club Menangle today.

By Huntsville, two-year-old is from Group One winning mare Musical Delight, which boasts a perfect record from five starters as a broodmare.

Musical Delight’s progeny include Group One winner Ripp, dual Inter Dominion heat winner Sure Thing Captain and dual Group One placegetter Beach Music.

Among the best of her crop, Musical Delight’s career was cut short with a record of 11 wins and five placings from just 18 starts for a bankroll of $248,910.

Trained by prominent Victorian couple Gary and Debbie Quinlan, Musical Delight’s victories include the 2012 Australian Pacing Gold Final in Melton.

Poised to make his debut, Our Main Man is engaged in the opening Australian Pacing Gold Prelude for trainer Luke McCarthy.

The colt heads into the qualifier on the strength of a handy trial at Club Menangle on May 20.

To be driven by Jack Callaghan, Our Main Man has drawn to settle in a prominent position from four over a mile.

When it comes to finding the biggest obstacle in his search for glory, Our Main Man doesn’t have to look far, with his stablemate, Don Hunter, the one to beat.

Also by Huntsville, Don Hunter has registered two wins and a third from three starts, with his successes including the Sapling Stake at Club Menangle.

Sent for a spell following his Bathurst Gold Crown Consolation triumph on March 28, Don Hunter will begin from gate two with McCarthy in the cart.

Also first-up since Bathurst, Revvin Reynard has the opportunity to upstage the stablemates from the pole with Will Rixon taking the reins.

Winner of a Bathurst Gold Crown heat, the Clayton Harmey-trained son of Stay Hungry was unplaced in the Group One Final.

Later on the card Harmey will contest the fillies’ prelude with Cocteau Diamond, which will make her debut from barrier six.

The daughter of Rock N Roll Heaven has had three trials in recent weeks for a win and two placings.

On the subject of trials, Peachesncream shapes as the one to beat based on her four outings for astute horseman Jarrod Alchin.

Second during her first trial, Peachesncream won the next three in impressive fashion, including a 24-metre win in 1:56.2 over a mile at Club Menangle last Wednesday.

To be driven by Cameron Hart, the daughter of Ultimate Machete has drawn to lead throughout from the pole.

Elsewhere on the program Luv The Nitelife will make her racing return for McCarthy.

Unbeaten from three starts, Luv The Nitelife was sent for a spell following her Golden Easter Egg win at Club Menangle on April 12.

Runner-up in a trial a fortnight ago, the daughter of Poster Boy will begin from barrier four of 1609 metres.

With two wins and a second from his last three starts, Keayang Santiago is the main danger from gate three for trainer Baylie McDonough and driver Jai Meikle.
