Drought-breaking win rewards patient connections

FINALLY showing a glimpse of what he is capable of in recent weeks, Tristar For Chris rewarded connections for their patience with an overdue victory at Club Menangle yesterday.

A talented non-tryer according to trainer Grant Fuller, Tristar For Chris registered his first success since March 2025, with his win following several eye-catching performances this campaign.

The five-year-old had been among the placegetters in three of his previous four starts heading into his latest assignment, including a second at the world class venue a week earlier.

“It’s about time he got another win on the board,” Fuller said. “It has been a long time between drinks, but he got there, which is the main thing.

“He’s always had a bit of a bottom to him, but he’s a non-trier. In his last few runs though I think the penny has dropped that he’s a racehorse and he’s putting in now.”

With underrated reinsman Sebastian Piltz in the cart, Tristar For Chris was settled in the ‘death seat’ from barrier six as Wills Way led from the pole.

Powering his way to the front at the top of the home straight, the son of Always B Miki completed a metre-and-a-half triumph from Hykeepmeposted.

Hesaa Lister was two-and-a-half metres away third as the winner covered the mile in 1:54.1.

“He’s five and I’ve been waiting three years for him to wake up to what he’s supposed to do,” Fuller said. “He appears to be slowly getting there.

“It was also a top drive by Sebastian. He doesn’t get a lot of drives, but deserves more as he is the kind of driver that listens to what the trainer wants and he’s also a very likable young bloke.”
