HE’S a greybeard which has had more starts than 99 per cent of his peers, but at Albion Park yesterday Lancelot Bromac proved he is far from retirement.

In what was his 425th outing, Lancelot Bromac registered his 30th win of which 29 have been for 71-year-old trainer Stewart Dickson, who began training the son of Art Major as a late two-year-old.

Lancelot Bromac had five starts for a win before joining Dickson’s stable.

“He’s been a marvel ever since I got him,” Dickson said. “To me he is a superstar as he always gives his all.

“He has an iron constitution that can see him keep backing up at the races.

“We’re both getting on in years, but still going strong.

“As long as he keeps showing me he is capable of winning, I’ll keep racing him.

“He’ll let me know when it is time for him to be retired.”

With Angus Garrard holding the reins, Lancelot Bromac was settled towards the tail of the field from barrier six as Yankee Dancer worked hard to lead from gate four.

Three-wide around the home turn, Lancelot Bromac sprinted stoutly to score by two metres from Alberio.

Miss Fernandez was two metres away third in 1:55.5 over 1660 metres.

“With a trip like that he was always going to be finishing strongly,” Dickson said. “I was very pleased with the way he found the line.

“There are no specific plans for him, I’ll put him around again next, then find another race after that.”
