Hopefully third time’s a charm!
CONNECTIONS of in-form mare Debutante Party hope third time’s a charm when they return to Club Menangle tomorrow night.
A surprise package since crossing the Tasman to join Brad Hewitt’s stable, Debutante Party has had six Australian starts for four wins.
“She is no star, but tries her heart out,” Hewitt said. “She is only a tiny thing, but has a heart as big as herself and a bit of an attitude to go with it.
“She has a competitive nature and enjoys being in a tussle.
“She has certainly done a top job so far and we’re pretty happy with her.”
The four-year-old’s defeats have come at Menangle where Debutante Party finished fifth on both occasions.
Debutante Party hasn’t raced since her latest appearance at the world class venue on January 15.
On that occasion the daughter of Bettors Delight was caught three-back along the pegs from barrier five before finishing nine-and-a-half metres from the winner, Be My Rose, which covered the mile in 1:51.6.
This time around Debutante Party will come from gate four.
“There are some handy types and a bit of form in the race, so it won’t be an easy first-up task,” Hewitt said.
“That said, she has to start off somewhere and this race seemed as good as any.
“She’s had one trial a couple of weeks ago where she went quite well and her work has picked up since, so she is ready to go.
“Whatever she does on the weekend though she is sure to improve on.”
