Impeccably-bred freshman blitzes rivals
ARGUABLY one of the best bred freshmen in the world, Wildfire Stride provided a strong indication he will match his bloodline on the racetrack with an emphatic victory yesterday.
By leading stallion Captaintreacherous, Wildfire Stride is from former champion mare Blue Moon Stride.
Purchased and raced in America by New South Wales couple Emilio and Maria Rosati, Blue Moon Stride bankrolled $1,266,226 thanks to her 17 wins and 24 placings.
Blue Moon Stride also boasts a fastest time of 1:48.4, while Captaintreacherous stopped the clock in a breathtaking 1:47.2!
An exceptionally-bred mare, Blue Moon Stride’s dam – Classic Star – is a half-sister to Bettors Delight, No Pan Intended and Roll With Joe, with the trio stars on the track and successful sires.
Third up debut at Club Menangle on August 11, Wildfire Stride proved he’d derived plenty of benefit from his maiden outing with a powerful speed display in Newcastle.
Driven by trainer Rickie Alchin, the colt led throughout from barrier four to complete an arrogant 32-metre win from Ifsbutsandbilycans.
Benjiromar was a neck away third as Wildfire Stride covered the mile in 1:53.1.
Thrilled with the two-year-old’s performance, Alchin is positive Wildfire Stride will continue to improve as the season progresses.
“I predicted before his debut he’d take a couple of starts to be wound up,” Alchin said. “I was happy with his debut and could feel the improvement in him between runs.
“There are three things I like in a baby – attitude, gait and type – and he ticks all the boxes…now it’s up to him!”
Although he is yet to select Wildfire Stride’s next target, Alchin stated the New South Wales Breeders’ Challenge as the main aim this campaign.
“We’re building up to the Breeders’ Challenge, which starts next month,” Alchin said. “I don’t have an exact program yet, but I will find another race for him before the Challenge heats.”
