Undefeated filly first-up along comeback trail

WHAT has been a “long road back” will hopefully garnish immediate results tonight.

Poised to have her first start since June 2025, undefeated filly Bettors Creation will make her comeback in Bathurst for trainer Jarrod Alchin.

Given a short break after completing a clean sweep of last season’s Australian Pacing Gold series, Bettors Creation was set to compete in Newcastle in August before a paddock accident put her career in jeopardy.

“She had a freshen-up, I’d given her a couple of trials and was ready to race her on the Friday when she did a tendon while bolting around a paddock,” Alchin explained. “I saw her whack it, went straight over to her and it immediately blew up.

“We gave her time off, she spent four months with Lee Evison, who did a terrific job with the tendon, then I had her ready to trial before I noticed she had a wind issue.

“She ended up having an operation on that, which meant more time off…it’s been a long road back, but we’re hopefully heading back in the right direction now.”

Successful in her two trials, including at Club Menangle last Wednesday, Bettors Creation has drawn the inside of the second row over 1730 metres.

Despite her draw and lack of racing, the three-year-old is a $1.30 TAB Fixed Odds favourite, with Awicked Woman considered the main danger at $4.60 from barrier 10.

“I was very pleased with her two trials as she did it quite easily,” Alchin said. “Tonight’s draw is not ideal and we’re under no real illusions as it will take a few runs to get her back to full fitness.

“That said, she is forward enough to be thereabouts…if she wasn’t she wouldn’t be racing!”
