Interstate trip on the cards

A TRIP across the border is a possibility with multiple feature winner Malcolms Rhythm.

Successful in last night’s Echuca Cup, Malcolms Rhythm is being considered for the South Australian Cup.

The time honoured event is scheduled to be run at Globe Derby on April 17.

Before a decision is made on the interstate trek the Australian Pacing Gold graduate will tackle the Mildura Cup on April 10.

“The plan is to head up for the Mildura Cup heats in a couple of weeks,” owner Domenic Martello said.

“If he comes through that well enough he’ll continue over to South Australia for the Cup.

“We’ll just wait and see how it all works out during the next few weeks.”

Malcolms Rhythm strengthened the prospects of heading to SA with his victory in last night’s Echuca Cup.

Driven by Josh Aiken, Malcolms Rhythm was settled midfield from his second row draw as Sicario led from barrier five.

Taken three-wide during the middle stages, Malcolms Rhythm was brilliantly slotted into the one-one at the bell before being angled to the pegs around the final bend.

Finishing strongly along the sprint lane, the son of Art Major grabbed the lead in the last stride to score by a head from Like A Wildfire, with Sicario a half-neck away third.

Rating 1:57 over 2560 metres, the David Aiken-trained stallion sliced a tenth of a second from Stormfortheboys’ track record set in April 2017.
