Having her third start, Majaro Girl broke her maiden by capturing a heat of the popular Foundation Series for trainer Anton Golino.

By Majestic Son from Group Two winner Monaro Maro, Majaro Girl produced a pair of eye-catching runs during her first two outings, finishing third upon debut followed by a solid fourth.

Pleased with the trotter’s performance, Golino is confident Majaro Girl can develop into a “very handy filly”.

“She is only a tiny thing…very tiny!” Golino said. “She’d be pushing 13 hands, but she has a bit of a motor and the potential to be a very handy filly.

“At the moment her gate speed is impressive and she is learning quite nicely as she goes.

“In fact, the last two weeks is the most she’s been switched on and I’ve noticed the improvement in her.”

With Jye Coney holding the reins, Majaro Girl led from barrier six before being eased to take a trail behind the $1.70 favourite, Chief Kenny.

Gaining a saloon passage along the inside, Majaro Girl sprinted to a metre-and-a-half win from San Antonio, with Hilldale Hilton a metre-and-a-half third in 1:59 over a mile.

“That gate speed got her into a good position early and she was able to capitalise on it,” Golino said. “She finished nicely when the opening came and the run will serve her well again.”

Bred and owned by Norm Jenkins, the two-year-old will continue to follow the Foundation Series, while a trip to Victoria later in the season is also on the cards.

“For now the Foundation is what she will stick with, but she is Vicbred, so we’ll look at that later on,” Golino said. “She would have to earn a crack at the Redwood in a few months, but it is always an option.

“I think Norm will have a bit of fun with her and I’m grateful he gave me the opportunity to train her.”
