FORMER “mad” mare Boxofchocolates has continued her righteous path.
Although the daughter of Union Guy “can still be a handful” for trainer Kent Harpley, Boxofchocolates is making up for her temperament on the race track.
Thanks to her success in Kilmore last night Boxofchocolates is unbeaten from five starts.
“She has come a long way but is still hard work,” Harpley said. “When I got her she was mad and had to be re-educated.
“You couldn’t even tie her up and even now we still need the clerk of course to help gear her up at the track.
“She can still be a handful but she is doing a tremendous job on the track so that makes all her quirks easier to put up with.”
Driven by Chris Alford, Boxofchocolates led throughout from the pole to score by a metre-and-a-half from Abouttime.
Roll Along Styx was three metres away third after racing in the ‘death seat’.
Covering the last half in 57 seconds, the five-year-old rated 1:54.8 over 1660 metres.
“I couldn’t be happier with her run,” Harpley said. “She had to do a little bit of work to hold the lead, then Chris rated her perfectly in front.
“I will give her a few easy days now then look for another race.
“I’m looking to take her to Melton in a couple of weeks if I can find the right race.”
