Might as well aim at the Inter Dominion too!
A RUNNING joke around the community stable will see connections of handy trotter Abitofadreamer aim high towards the end of the season.
Following his victory with Blue Chipped at Tabcorp Park Melton a fortnight ago, trainer Joe Borg stated he didn’t have any specific plans for the son of Santanna Blue Chip.
Despite Blue Chipped’s low National Rating of 40 – having registered just two wins during the past four years – Borg stated he will consider the suggestion of aiming Blue Chipped at the Inter Dominion.
The time-honoured series is scheduled to begin with heats at Club Menangle on November 27, giving Borg ample time to ‘fine tune’ the nine-year-old!
“I hadn’t given the Inter Dominion any thought, but now that you mention it,” Borg joked. “It’s a big step up in grade, but why not?”
Fast forward to yesterday’s Tabcorp Park Melton meeting and Abitofadreamer completed a well-earned triumph on the back of some solid form in recent weeks.
Driven to perfection by Brad Chisholm to land in the one-one from barrier five before being taken to the lead, the son of Used To Me notched his second win from 21 starts for trainer Kim Procter.
Abitofadreamer rated 2:03.5 over 2240 metres to score by five-and-a-half metres from Floating Mountain, with Captain Mccraw a metre-and-a-half away third.
Thrilled with the four-year-old’s success, Procter decided the Inter Dominion should also be on Abitofadreamer’s agenda.
“If Joe can aim Blue Chipped at the Inter Dominion, I might as well do the same with Dreamer,” Procter laughed.
“I’m just so rapt with him…this is my first win in Melton since moving from South Australia last year.
“It was a wonderful drive from Brad, he really summed up the race perfectly.”
As for the short term plans with the squaregaiter, Procter will aim Abitofadreamer at a suitable class race during the next fortnight.
“I’ll have to look at the program to find a race in his grade in the next 10 or so days,” Procter said. “Hopefully he can keep racing as well as he is and get another win or two before the end of the year.”
