“IT MAY sound a little crazy, but this will really test him.”
That was the assessment from trainer David Moran when discussing Lochinvar Art’s pending assignment.
Fresh from an effortless victory in Shepparton 10 days ago, the outstanding four-year-old is set to return to the same venue tonight.
Although Lochinvar Art is a prohibitive $1.22 favourite with TAB Fixed Odds, Moran believes the son of Modern Art is less than a ‘sure thing’.
Along with a second row draw over the 1690-metre sprint, Lochinvar Art faces several in-form rivals.
“It may sound a little crazy, but this will really test him,” Moran said. “The conditions aren’t in his favour and a few of the others are in good form.
“He’ll certainly know he’s in a race and will have to earn the win.”
Despite Leonidas being the only other runner under double figures at $5, Moran rates Jimmy Locke as the main danger.
Leonidas will begin from seven, while Jimmy Locke slots into the pole following a scratching.
Jimmy Locke is listed at $14 with TAB Fixed Odds.
The pair are trained by David Aiken, who also has Roll With It and Ideal Star in the field.
“Jimmy Locke is in top form, and if he leads, he can run a quick mile,” Moran said. “That’s going to make him hard to run down.”
