WATCHING Miss Piggy Wiggy breaking her maiden in Newcastle last night was a great source of pride for the Elder family.
Having her 15th start, the three-year-old is trained by Melanie Elder and was driven by the horsewoman’s brother, Brad.
By Western Terror from Pagan Love, Miss Piggy Wiggy was bred by Elder and her mother, Nicole, who owns the filly.
“It was a real family win,” Elder said. “The fact she is a big part of our family, more like a pet, made her first win all the more special.
“Mum and I bred her and of course Brad drove her perfectly.”
After being pushed hard to lead from barrier three, Brad was forced to take a trail with Miss Piggy Wiggy after Tilly De Lil’s driver, Grace Panella, kept pressuring for the front.
Taken three-wide turning for home, Miss Piggy Wiggy sprinted to a six-metre win from Codeblue.
Elles Choice was three metres away third in 2:00.5 over 2030 metres.
“She worked hard to find the front, and then after copping a bit of heat Brad made the right move by taking a trail,” Elder said.
“I could see she was still travelling nicely down the back but was worried she wouldn’t get clear.
“Once Brad got her into the clear she finished it off brilliantly.”
