Promising youngster ready for rich futurity

PROMISING youngster Seaside Boy continued his march towards another crack at the Vicbred Super Series with his win in Melton last night.

Proving too good for his older rivals, Seaside Boy took his record to four wins and three placings from seven starts this season.

Pleased with the three-year-old’s progress, trainer Emma Stewart confirmed Seaside Boy’s preparation is based around the futurity, which begins with heats in Kilmore on August 27.

Should all go to plan, Seaside Boy will then contest the Final in Melton on September 12.

Although he qualified for last season’s Final, Seaside Boy had no luck throughout the series.

“Not a lot went his way last year, but hopefully that won’t be the case this time,” Stewart said. “He had a good break after the Vicbred and has come back a lot more like a racehorse.

“We’ll keep him ticking along for the heats and hope things can go his way.”

Driven by Ryan Sanderson, Seaside Boy was pushed through from his second row draw to gain the coveted one-one trail as Sweet Irish Loch led and Telemachus occupied the ‘death seat’.

Angled three-wide leaving the back straight, the gelding sprinted to the front before staving off a late challenge from his stablemate Midnight Moth to score by a neck.

Sweet Irish Loch battled on to be three-and-a-half metres away third in 1:53.7 over 1720 metres.
