King of winter continues to reign

PROVING himself the ‘King of winter’ at Club Menangle, Glitter Aint Gold is likely to have one more outing at the world class venue before enjoying a quiet spring.

That’s the plan according to trainer Nathan Turnbull following Glitter Aint Gold’s success around Australia’s premier circuit last night.

Connections made the decision to bypass last month’s Inter Dominion with the son of Bling It On in hope of banking “good money” while the top performers are away, with Glitter Aint Gold relishing the opportunity.

As of his latest success, Glitter Aint Gold has earned $66,888 – the result of four wins and a third from six starts.

“As I’ve said previously, having him in the Inter Dominion is appealing, but we felt it was a better idea to avoid the real top ones,” Turnbull said. “He’s a step below the highest level and had a better chance of picking up some good money here.

“Last night was his fourth win in a $30,00 race, so we pulled the right rein.

“He’s done a terrific job and has earned a good break, so I will give him one more start before he has spring off to enjoy the warmer weather.”

With Jett Turnbull holding the reins, Glitter Aint Gold overcame barrier nine to account for Louie Lou I and Better Eclipse in 1:52.5 over 2300 metres.

“That was another great run from him,” Turnbull said. “He’s just in a zone at the moment and we couldn’t be happier with him.”

Earlier on the card the Turnbulls were triumphant with Jorge Street, which led throughout from barrier four to complete an overdue victory.

Covering the mile in 1:52, Jorge Street scored by a metre from Smoken Ace, with Alta William a half-head away third.

“It was good to see him back in the winners’ circle as he has been consistent,” Turnbull said. “I actually thought I had him sold to America, but the sale fell through, but it turned out well anyway as he’s run a second and now a win since then.

“I haven’t got anything specific picked out for him, just keep finding the most suitable races.”
