Hit-and-run mission

VICTORIAN horseman Jeremy Quinlan plans to make the most of his hit-and-run mission to South Australia.

Quinlan has crossed the border with two members of his stable, with both set to compete twice in 48 hours.

Beginning with tomorrow night’s Globe Derby meeting, Our Cheeky Devil and Taken By Wine will return to the venue on Monday afternoon.

Drawn the pole for his first appearance, Our Cheeky Devil will “take a lot of beating” over 1800 metres according to Quinlan.

Among the placegetters during two of his last four starts, Our Cheeky Devil has been kept safe at $6 in early markets.

Fresh from her win earlier this week, Laylas Princess is a $2.50 favourite from barrier two.

“This is a drop in class for Our Cheeky Devil, and from a good draw, he will take a lot of beating,” Quinlan said. “He’s drawn three on Monday in a field of six, which will also suit him.

“I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t win one, let alone both, with the right run.”

Taken By Wine will come from gate nine over 1800 metres, with Quinlan confident the trotter can register her first win since last May.

“She is going better than her paper form looks,” Quinlan said. “As long as she can avoid traffic and have the chance to run freely, I believe she can win this.”

Taken By Wine faces another second row draw – barrier eight – on Monday, with the daughter of Im Stately listed among the outsiders at $21.

“She hasn’t drawn well in either race, but hopefully that won’t be a problem,” Quinlan said. “As long as she gets a clear passage, she should be right in it.”
